There are so many discouraging things happening in our world. It is sometimes hard to see God’s hand and plan in all of this. One of the most discouraging things in my point of view is seeing someone who has followed Christ for quite some time consciously decide to turn away, given that they could not overcome certain obstacles in their life. After fighting for so long, I assume, they think that God’s patience in the matter means his approval thereof. Lord, give us grace.

It is similar to the parable of the sower where the seed falls on four types of soil. The most difficult to accept must be the seed that fell among the thorns because it grew up. It was so close to bearing fruit, but it let worldly concerns choke it out (and willingly walk away from truth not discerning the thorn is work of the enemy).

This is a note of encouragement, to you. To you who are fighting to move forward. It is a note to you who have questions and find it difficult to resolve the answers. This is a note to those who have struggled a long time in the same direction, reaching toward truth but being held down by the same temptation.

This note is for you to say: do not give up, do not move backwards, hold strong.

Hold strong.

This morning I read in Mark 4 the parable of the growing seed. I did not understand its depth at first, but it speaks of God’s kingdom in comparison to someone who plants his crops. A farmer has to have quite a lot of patience. He must work diligently but the ultimate result is in the hands of the Creator.  The Gospel is planted by us who are representatives of Christ, those who have abandoned the path to self-pleasure and in suffering after suffering choose to keep following our God, knowing that there is hope in the resurrection.

 “But God where are you?”

“But God I have tried for so long!”

“Sorry, Lord, I tried but I never could be good enough.”

“How could a good God allow….and where is He now.”

This parable tells us that whether the sower sleeps or moves, the seed planted begins to grow, first by little then to fruition.

The Word is from the beginning. All creation came to be through the Word, that is Jesus. It is working. HE is working and He is using us the hasten the day of justice.

Many in Jesus’ day thought the Messiah would come by force as a repairer of the Kingdom of Israel. Instead, He came in humility and chose a process of love that is working even today.

Dear fellow believer, keep going. The day is certainly coming when all will be made right. Our momentary suffering is working that eternal weight of glory that we so desire.  Through doubts and struggles, pain and triumph, keep steady and stand firm. The Lord will fight for us and through us to bring about His kingdom. It is after all, all about Him.

The Parable of the Growing Seed

26 He also said, “This is what the kingdom of God is like. A man scatters seed on the ground. 27 Night and day, whether he sleeps or gets up, the seed sprouts and grows, though he does not know how. 28 All by itself the soil produces grain—first the stalk, then the head, then the full kernel in the head. 29 As soon as the grain is ripe, he puts the sickle to it, because the harvest has come.”
